An outbreak of mental disorders of unclear origin occurred among residents of three cities in India on the shore of the river north of Koko Nicaragua. Currently the number of patients set to 43 people. The causes of this phenomenon are discussed by doctors and anthropologists, wrote The New Scientist.
The main symptoms of the disorder are panic attacks associated with aches and disorders respiration. And Otherwise patients are disoriented in space and time, sometimes they fall into a state similar to trance. Most often they are young and especially women who are affected.
As explained in an interview with Elie Karam doctor who had studied an outbreak similar to Lyban in 2004, we do not know the causes of this disease, but they seem like the mass hysteria of the Middle Ages. An important feature of these imbalances is their mass character and the ability to spread through the "mental contamination".
Usually the symptoms disappear without trace after a few weeks.
