OMG, the boy goes to bed by himself!

April 6th, 2008 by Kilted Eric

Cute Child Story ahead, people who do not enjoy CCS please look away.

Ryan puts himself to bed. I repeat, Ryan puts himself to bed. He has been doing this for about a week now. I didn’t write anything before, because sometimes these are flukes. This is becoming a bit of a routine for him now.
When he (and / or we) is ready to go to bed, he will start laying himself down. If he is sitting in his high chair he will lay his head on the tray, or give the sign for milk or sign “sleep”.
We will get his bottle of milk ready (he only drinks milk from a nipple at nap and before bed now a days), change his diaper and into PJs while he drinks his milk.
Then off to the kitchen for tooth brushing. You read right, he brushes his own teeth. His tooth brushing system includes 9 different tooth brushes and his non fluoridated tooth paste. He will lick a bit of tooth paste (very hippy tooth paste stuff, safe safe safe) and then “brush” his teeth using ALL NINE brushes. He also counts how many brushes he has. When he is done brushing he very carefully puts them away and says “By By tooth brushes”.
At this point the family marches into the bedroom, with Ryan in the lead. One parent directs the boy to his bed, he other puts up the baby gate. Tuck in, kisses, and goodnights. Done.

I KNOW! Right now, this month, we are the LUCKIEST PARENTS IN THE WORLD! Note, I said this month and right now. All parents reading this know the choatic nature of children and how quickly things can change.

For now I am very happy about this. I should try to get video of it just to prove to everybody this really does happen.

Ryan’s been busy

September 22nd, 2007 by Kilted Eric

Heres the scoop on what’s been going with Ryan lately.

He was sleeping in a play pen we converted into a crib for sometime now.  Well that was untill He decided to figur out how to pull him self out of it.  Little booger.  We were going to give him his own room at some point, but now we are going to build him his own “baby prison” if you will.  Gee that sound bad on paper.

Basically we are going to build a short wall dividing our bedroom, giving him a space big enough for his RACE CAR BED.  It will be dry walled, and cozy.  With a space on the end for a baby gate.  This way, when he lays down for a nap He will be safe and secure.

Also, Carrie has been bringing him into the bathroom a couple times a day to sit on his potty.  Today He made a poop with me!  A big one too.  With luck, he will be quickly on his way oput of diapers!

Still not “talking” yet, but boy does that kid ramble on.  He always has something to say, even though we can’t understand him.

We (mostly me, for I get excited easily) are getting exicted because in Christmas we will be spending it out in Minnesota with my Mom, and my Brother and his family, and the rest on my realtives!  This will be Ryans first trip out there, and he will be meeting most of these people for the first time.

Well, that just about catches you all up!

Art is Subjective

July 12th, 2007 by Kilted Eric

As I was making Frozen Pudding Pops, Carrie was in the bedroom getting Ryan ready for bed. She was reading him a story. The Dr. Suess ABC book. As she was reading it, I thought that it sounded totally different from the way I read it.

You know that “grown up” art is subjective. I can watch a B Movie and see its genius, or look at a Pollack and say to myself “Whut?”

But, it never crossed my mind that even children’s books could also be subjective. I read the same book as she was reading in a low, slow tempo style, where as she was reading it more upbeat, almost cheerleader style.

So, here’s the thought for the night, for you people with children, did you notice that parent A was handling a type of art in one way while parent B was handling it completely different.

The soothing sounds of explosions.

Ryan got to go to his first Firework display. We played in the park with other kids. Walked all over with Mom & me. Eat tuna salad and fruit. Big day.

When the fireworks started, first he was scared, but he had mom and his bottle. of milk. By the end he was drifting asleep, only to be awaken by the clapping of the people around us.

From now own, when ever Ryan can’t sleep, I am blowing something up. Hehehehe

Happy 4th, & is this growing up?

July 4th, 2007 by Kilted Eric

So its the 4th of July, and I have finished my tasks for today,  at the moment.  Laundry folded, dish’s washed, watermelon cut, and the tuna macaroni salad made.

( The type with peas and cheddar cheese, 10 years as a cook and I still make the things my mom made for me.)

So now  I sit and have some coffee, and wait for the next load of laundry to finish drying,  and I think about past 4ths.

Sleep in, get dressed, get beer.  Find party, blow stuff up, drink beer.

Now its chores, coffee, and NPR radio.  Hum, is this growing up?  I though there would be jet packs and me being a spy, but I am not complaining.

Happy 4th of July to all, and especially to the Stay at home dads - fire up the grill boys!

These bars make neat sounds

What a face.

We went to Carceek park, and played at the playground. This jungle gym has metal tubes on the bars that make bell sounds. Ryan digged it so much.

Little Booger is getting to be a big booger

July 1st, 2007 by Kilted Eric

We noticed that one of Ryan’s 7 teeth was a bit yellow, and we remembered reading that babies that fall asleep with a bottle of mike are very prone to teeth problems.  SO we have started to change his sleep routine.  Now We put him into PJs, and than have a bottle of warm milk while reading a story.  Than we brush our teeth, and go to bed.  So far the longest he has cried has been 45 min, with use laying him back down, giving him a bottle of water and a pacifier.  Last night it only took a 1/2 an hour.

Also he can climb up his toddler slide (4 steps) and slide down, with little to no help!  Everday he gets bigger.  We are hearing real words within his baby talk, so we know that soon, Ryan will say his truly first words.
