I forgot to tell you that I have uploaded photos of the coop project. Go to flickr and check them out.

Not a coop yet, but very close now.

May 18th, 2007 by Kilted Eric

Today was a busy coop day. I now have four walls, a “person” door for cleaning and a hole for the hen door. I need to get more lumber for the roof.

NOTE: Reclaimed lumber is great. It’s cheap ( as in going to my brother-in-laws house and raiding his lumber pile), it’s ‘green’ no new lumber has been purchased for this project. BUT! Its usally not good quality. Most of the stuff has been very moist, and uneven. But hey, will the chickens care? No. I am learning more because I really have to think out side the box? Yes.

Biology plays evil joke on boy.

Does any one know why the my 14 month old son has a bad teething day he gets a really bad diaper rash? Strees, the pain, or just a bad joke?

Here you go boy, your mouth is going to hurt really bad as a new tooth pushes through your gum line, and oh by the way, now your butt willl be red as a lobster and will hurt!

I am glad I don’t remember being that young.

Used Veg Oil for lamps

May 10th, 2007 by Kilted Eric

This is fun and “green” Being that i don’t convert my used cooking oil into biodiesle yet, I decided to make lamps using my used cooking oil. They work great, don’t smell bad, and is a fun little project. I did have the fancy parfin lamp oil sitting around so right now my oil lamps are 3/4 used veg oil 1/4 lamp oil.

Urban Farm or Honey, there’s a chicken in the backyard.

Last Thursday Caroline and I watched An Inconvenient Truth, and it struck several cords in us, but I don’t feel like spending a bunch of time preaching here so instead I will tell you about our Urban Farm Project.

We have decide to start a vegetable garden and we are going to get some chickens. Seattle allows for 3 chickens. We want to start spending less money on food, and spend more time at home with Ryan together. Lots of plans and thing to do. # 1 on the list is to create the plot for the garden and get it ready to start planting.

I will keep writing and filling you in on the details as they happen.

I am constantly tinkering and messing around with this page. Thought I would tell you just in case you can back and it looked completely different.

I have added three links to my …blogroll… (where do they come up with these names).
43 Folders, Merlin Manns page. He has showed me Quicksilver (if you use a mac download this little app, it will speed up your keyboard) its great. He is inspiring me to do more.

The Bald Heretic, a writer and IT guy. I found he’s page while looking up pirate music. He is also in a band called the Flying Fish Sailors. Good stuff, if you like goofy music.
&
Vision Nary? I will not admit to living with these people. I do not recall that time. Satire and offensive writing. Sometimes I laugh, and sometimes i stare at the page in the same way I stare at Canadian political humor.

Boy drinks milk, than makes mess

May 2nd, 2007 by Kilted Eric

I was under the impression that the sippy cups I have been using were becoming defective. Ah ha! Nope, they are not. I was watching Ryan eat. and he took a big drink out of his sippy cup, and a bunch dribbled down his chin. Thats when I noticed that he would sip the milk into his mouth, and than kinda slurp out the excess. Gross, but funny. Now that I think of it, when ever anybody asks me how Fatherhood is, I will reply with Gross, but funny.

I send big smiles to my sister in Virginia with her newborn. So much fun ahead.
