Louisiana Man Charged, wears skirts while Mowing

We may not know what a Scotsman wears under his kilt, but the town officials of Clinton, Louisiana, say what they see is too much.
Jay Herrod mows lawns in a skirt.
He says he wears the garment because he gets heat rash and “it allows that area to breathe and, uh, wearing a skirt on the mower allows the sweat to evaporate.”
Herrod’s landscaping customers aren’t complaining.
“He cuts the yard in a hurry. He does a good job,” Carline Kimbro says. “I don’t have any problems. That’s what I was interested in. I don’t pay attention to what he wears.”
But the town alderman in this northern Louisiana town do.
The municipal authorities have cited Herrod for indecency in violation of a “no sagging pants” ordinance. He says the rule shouldn’t apply to him because of his medical condition and has a doctor’s note to prove it.
“I’ve had some women say I have nice looking legs, “Herrod says with a laugh.”For a man, I know, I’m the only guy in East Feliciana Parish that wears a skirt. That’s a known fact.”

WHAT? No Saggy Pants? Hey Clinton, Louisiana Officials, get a clue! If your going to charge this man with anything charge him with public indecency not this bull crap of a charge!
Ok, I am a bit calmer now. Here’s the deal, whether I like it or not, a man in a skirt is fighting the battle against a society that says men should only wear pants. I feel this guy should be able to wear what he wants. Now, if he is being indecent, that’s one thing. But for them to use this silly law about no sagging pants (um fashion comes and goes people! And Gang members with just wear something else next week, deal with the bigger issues, schools, jobs, racism than some stupid reactionary Sagging Pants law)
If I wore underwear, they would be in a bind right now. Holy crap, this annoys me to no end.
HEY ANY MODERN KILT MAKERS FIND THIS GUY AND SEND HIM A KILT ON THE HOUSE!
The charge should fit the crime. This charge does not fit the crime.

I need to better my diet, but mostly I need to exercise more. I am getting thicker around the middle. Soon I will have to buy the Beergut cut Utilikilt.
What else can I say about that? Not much, just need to do it.

Ben over at Kiltme.com has been hard at work making kilts for himself. He’s up to 2 now, and I just love what he has done with the second kilt.
A box pleat kilt, but he worked in a tartan fabric on the inside pleats. Very sharp looking. You can see for your self here

I heart kilts. You all know this. I am a huge supporter of kilts in all forms. I support the traditional, and the modern kilt wearers alike. I almost never have anything bad to say about kilts. Until tonight.
Simply put, HEY MODERN KILT MAKERS WHY DO YOU MAKE EVERY G@% D@&$ KILT OUT OF COTTON FABRICS? Why? I love my Utilikilts. But my biggest gripe is the cotton. It rains in Seattle, and when cotton gets wet, you get cold. Simple math. 1 + 1 = Cold walk home.
I only have one wool tartan, I don’t wear it to work because it cost me $400 some odd bucks. Today would have been the best day to wear it. Rainy and cold. While walking home from school, I got soaked.
Super Soaked. Yuck. I need to either make my own “modern” kilt out of something NOT COTTON (but still warmish) or make a slip that is non cotton.
In closeing, We often complain about things we love, fatty foods, the goverment, my wife. I don;t love them any less. I just need to convince somebody of this.
Give me non-cotton or Give me….. well not death, thats pushing it, but how about a bad cold in the nose.

Today I met the infamous Doug Cox (click here to learn a bit more, see the Second Place winner)
He is a very cool guy, who owns tons of Utilikilts, and has been a part of the Utilikilts family for some time now. I am just excited to meet him, kinda like meeting a movie star!
Plus, he knew my name from the blog (this one) and the podcast! That also makes me Happy!

Eye strain is putting a strain on my Puter Time

I have been dealing with eyestrain this week. Well, I haven’t gone to a doctors or anything yet, but I looked it up on the internet, and I am pretty sure its eye strain.
I get weird kinda headaches, and dots in my field of vision. SO I have been trying to limit my Mac time a bit. I also will change to colors of my screen, or wear sunglasses.
I should go to an eye doctor at some point.

Cute Child Story ahead, people who do not enjoy CCS please look away.
Ryan puts himself to bed. I repeat, Ryan puts himself to bed. He has been doing this for about a week now. I didn’t write anything before, because sometimes these are flukes. This is becoming a bit of a routine for him now.
When he (and / or we) is ready to go to bed, he will start laying himself down. If he is sitting in his high chair he will lay his head on the tray, or give the sign for milk or sign “sleep”.
We will get his bottle of milk ready (he only drinks milk from a nipple at nap and before bed now a days), change his diaper and into PJs while he drinks his milk.
Then off to the kitchen for tooth brushing. You read right, he brushes his own teeth. His tooth brushing system includes 9 different tooth brushes and his non fluoridated tooth paste. He will lick a bit of tooth paste (very hippy tooth paste stuff, safe safe safe) and then “brush” his teeth using ALL NINE brushes. He also counts how many brushes he has. When he is done brushing he very carefully puts them away and says “By By tooth brushes”.
At this point the family marches into the bedroom, with Ryan in the lead. One parent directs the boy to his bed, he other puts up the baby gate. Tuck in, kisses, and goodnights. Done.
I KNOW! Right now, this month, we are the LUCKIEST PARENTS IN THE WORLD! Note, I said this month and right now. All parents reading this know the choatic nature of children and how quickly things can change.
For now I am very happy about this. I should try to get video of it just to prove to everybody this really does happen.

Miss Maggies Frugal Abundance , my Step SIster from the South! She changed her blog to a new site and let go of her old site, which is giving her more freedom and time to do the things she has to / wants to do. Go Maggie Go!
Kilt Blog and Kilt Me are 2 different bloggers both writing about wearing kilts, making kilts, and the stuff the=at goes on with them as well. I am very excited to know more men are out there creating kilt related content, that isn’t just dirty jokes. Thanks Guys, keep up the great work!
The Brotherhood of the KIlt Why I didn’t have this up here before is beyond me. Truly the best general interest Kilt forum out there. There is one other site that is a general interest kilt forum, but I don’t like it. The people there at The Brotherhood of the kilt are funny, friendly, geeky, smart, and all around interesting. If you are looking for more information about wearing kilts, history of kilts, start here.
Kilted Public Radio Hey hey, some guys from the Brotherhood of the Kilt started their own Kilt related Podcast. At the time of this posting they have 3 shows in the can. They are doing good work over there. Now I wonder if they will ever call me to do an interview?
